Come and see the world première of music for ballet set to the original Brothers Grimm version of Snow White (Schneewittchen). It will be performed by a brand new ensemble, Birmingham Sinfonietta, and conducted by the composer, Leon Haxby (www.leonhaxby.com).
The performance will also feature 27 newly commissioned illustrations by artist Maria Klimko (www.mariaklimko.com), and set designs by Alicia Bedden.
Synopsis: After the death of her mother (the Queen), Snow White falls prey to her proud and jealous Stepmother. She is forced to flee and seek refuge at the Dwarfs' house in the forest. The Evil Stepmother disguises herself and tries three times to end Snow White's life, the last time succeeding by tempting Snow White with a beautiful, poisoned apple. The Dwarfs try to revive her, but cannot, and place her in a glass coffin so that her beauty is never hidden. One day, a Young Prince passing by the Dwarfs' house sees Snow White and falls in love with her. He says he could not live without being able to see her, and the Dwarfs eventually take pity on the Prince and allow him to take Snow White. The Prince manages to revive her, and they decide to get married, inviting the whole kingdom. At their wedding, The Evil Stepmother meets her sticky end...
